Enjoying a hearty breakfast in the fresh mountain air as the first rays of the sun gently warm your face and your eyes feast on the most incredible mountain views. What better way is there to start your day? So, jump out of bed, get your hiking boots on and head to the Granatalm on the Penkenjoch. Whether you are an ambitious hiker who plans to walk up from the valley, or prefer to travel up the mountain by cable car - the Granatalm on the Penkenjoch is the perfect location.
The owners of the Granatalm are passionate about using fresh, regional produce in their menu and this is reflected in the generous breakfast buffet. You can look forward to a range of delicious breads, local specialities such as the Ziller Valley Heumilchkäse (high quality local cheese), other tasty cheeses and cold meats and eggs from free-range hens.
After you have eaten your fill and soaked up plenty of morning sunshine, then stretch your legs with a short walk to the nearby Granatalm chapel. This idyllic little family chapel is just 5 minutes walk from the hut, next to a small reservoir. Newly built, the chapel is formed like a cut gemstone - in fact the garnet (Granat in German), a precious stone which can be found in the Ziller Valley. Would you like to find out more about the history of the chapel? The Granatalm also offers guided tours to the chapel, which you can book to enjoy after your breakfast or for another day.
